Being the son of an Oral Surgeon, Dr. Medel became keen to his calling at an early age working in his Father's office. Dr. Medel was accepted to the Lyman Briggs School of Natural Sciences at  Michigan State University where he majored in medical technology.  He received his dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy with honors being inducted into the National Dental Honor Society  Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU). Following graduation, he then moved to Texas to earn his Medical Degree from the UTSouthwestern School of Medicine. Dr. Medel completed his residency training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the  University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Memorial and Affiliated Hospitals in Dallas, Texas. He now remains involved in numerous professional societies and has authored multiple journal publications and textbook chapters.

While in medical school he married the love of his life, a native Texan. They currently have two semi-children ,their dogs, and are looking forward to starting a family soon in Henderson county. 

​His personal interests include spending time with Family, fishing and hunting in the great outdoors, playing guitar and working out.
